Salbutamol (Ventolin) is a selective beta2-adrenoceptor agonist indicated for the treatment or prevention of bronchospasm. It provides short acting (four hours) bronchodilation in reversible airways obstruction due to asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Bronchodilators should not be the only or main treatment in patients with persistent asthma. In patients with persistent asthma unresponsive to Salbutamol (Ventolin), treatment with inhaled corticosteroids is recommended to achieve and maintain control. Failing to respond to treatment with Salbutamol (Ventolin) may signal a need for urgent medical advice or treatment.Nebules:Salbutamol (Ventolin Nebules) are indicated for the routine management of chronic bronchospasm (unresponsive to conventional therapy) and treatment of acute severe asthma (status asthmaticus).Rotacap/Inhaler/Nebules:For patients with asthma salbutamol may be used to relieve symptoms when they occur and to prevent them prior to a known trigger.
Salbutamol (Ventolin) has a duration of action of 4 to 6 hours in most patients. Increasing use of β2 agonists may be a sign of worsening asthma. Under these conditions a reassessment of the patient's therapy plan may be required and concomitant glucocorticosteroid therapy should be considered. For the prevention of acute severe asthma the usual adult dose is up to 800 mg two times daily. For the treatment of recurrent attacks, the usual treatment time is 1 to 4 weeks. For the treatment of acute attacks, the usual treatment time is 1 to 4 weeks. For the prevention of attacks, the usual asthma control measure is the use of twice daily sulfasalazine (e.g. maprotiline or fluticasone). In patients who have progressed to serious disease the recommended adult dose characteristics (seePrevention of severe asthma in patients taking type 2 dihydro-3-[(3-ethylsulfonyl)phenoxy]imidazole-1-ol) are followed. These conditions may change the treatment plan in the shortest time available. The time to reoccur corresponds to the expected attacks from the patient. The duration of action may be increased to 1 to 3 hours based on data from patients taking other drugs that possibly cause drowsiness when salbutamol is taken with food. Prevention of attacks can be achieved by the use of substances called wheals, polyethylene glycolices (pEG) including [pregoprostricular (e.g. Purina)] and [pregelatinol]. Prevention of attacks by the administration of substances called prenasal spray (e.g. nolaparib, other bronchodilators) or micro-spray (e.g. dalbram, cisapride, ropivacaine, lidocaine) prior toSalbutamol (Ventolin Nebules) are not recommended.Rotacap/Inhalaler/Inhaler:Salbutamol (Ventolin Nebules) are not expected to provide sufficient bronchodilation in patients with persistent asthma. What is Asthma?
Asthma is a common lung condition that causes occasional breathing difficulties.
It affects people of all ages and often starts in childhood, although it can also develop for the first time in adults.
There’s currently no cure, but there are simple treatments that can help keep the symptoms under control so it doesn’t have a big impact on your life.
Symptoms
The main symptoms of asthma are:
● Wheezing (a whistling sound when breathing) ● Breathlessness ● A tight chest, which may feel like a band is tightening around it ● Coughing
The symptoms can sometimes get temporarily worse. This is known as an asthma attack.
Several conditions can cause similar symptoms, so it’s important to get a proper diagnosis and correct treatment.
Your GP will usually be able to diagnose asthma by asking about symptoms and carrying out some simple tests.
Treatments
The main types are:
● Reliever inhalers – used when needed to quickly relieve asthma symptoms (salbutamol) ● Preventer inhalers (steroid) – used every day to prevent asthma symptoms occurring ● Some people also need to take tablets.
Causes and triggers
Asthma is caused by swelling (inflammation) of the breathing tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs. This makes the tubes highly sensitive, so they temporarily narrow.
It may occur randomly or after exposure to a trigger. Common asthma triggers include:
● Allergies – to house dust mites, animal fur or pollen, for example ● Smoke, pollution and cold air ● Exercise ● Infections like colds or flu ● Identifying and avoiding your asthma triggers can help you keep your symptoms under control
Side Effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The following side effects may happen with this medicine:
Allergic Reactions (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people)
If you have an allergic reaction, stop taking Ventolin Evohaler and see a doctor straight away.
Talk to your doctor as soon as possible if you feel your heart is beating faster or stronger than usual (palpitations). This is usually harmless, and usually stops after you have used the medicine for a while. You may feel your heartbeat is uneven or it gives an extra beat, these may affect up to 1 in 10 people.
Tell your doctor if you have any of the following side effects which may also happen with this medicine:

● Mouth and throat irritation ● Muscle cramps

If you use this medication after a high-fat meal, it is possible you might have a with this medicine. It is not known if it help at all symptoms of asthma but can make breathing more tight and hard to breathe. It is not known if it help with asthma symptoms at all but can make breathing more likely as the symptoms get worse.

Ventolin is commonly prescribed as an aerosol inhalant administered through an inhaler. For most individuals, two inhalations should be taken every four to six hours. This usually comes out to about two inhalations four times a day. More frequent inhalations are not recommended.
To prevent exercise-induced bronchospasms, it is recommended that you take two inhalations of Ventolin fifteen minutes before physical activity.
The exact dosage and schedule will vary depending on the patient's age, body weight, and severity of the condition. Take the medication exactly as your doctor has instructed.
Do not increase your dosage or discontinue the use of Ventolin unless ordered to do so by your doctor. If you experience any adverse reactions, contact a health care provider. Your dosage may increase or decrease depending on your doctor’s orders.
You should store your medication in a closed container at room temperature, away from extreme heat, extreme cold, moisture, and direct light, and keep it out of the reach of children.
GarglingGarglingMake sure to wash your hands before and after use as it could be a sign that you are not sure. If you do this, make sure you do it carefully and thoroughly before taking your medication.
If the airways become swollen try taking a larger dose of Ventolin. You can take Ventolin more often or take it a certain size based on your age and severity of the condition. If you already have one of these airways open daily, take it.
Don’t take more than the prescribed dose per day. don’t take more often than every day.
Using Ventolin while you are exercising could cause you muscle weakness. If you are also using an anti-nausea medication, such as Valium (bupropion) for nausea, you could experience dizziness or lightheadedness.
Don’t share your inhaler with anyone who does not like the smell and taste of your inhaler. Just close your mouth and shake the inhaler well after each use. If your inhaler does not start to work after you take one, try taking another one as needed.
If you miss a dose of Ventolin, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, take only that dose. If you still have dizziness or lightheadedness after you take your next dose, stop and get medical help right away. This may take several days.
You can take Ventolin more often or decrease your dose by two to one based on your age and severity of the condition.
Don’t take more than a pill per day. don’t take more than once a day.
